Preservation
LaPorte County Draft Horse Association was
founded in 1974 with the purpose of preserving an
important part of Rural American life by education,
exhibition, and the continuing improvement of all
the draft breeds through competition.
Education
Our association has been holding Plow Days, 4-H
clinics, and open shows to educate the public on
the "original" horsepower on the farm. Many of our
teamsters started as the youth we educated. They
now help to carry on the tradition.
Community involvement
Exhibition
Annually we hold an Open exhibition to showcase some of the best
teams in the nation. Teamsters come from as far away as Ohio,
Missouri, Wisconsin, Kentucky, and Canada.
LaPorte County Draft Horse Association
Our association takes great pride in showcasing the breeds - Belgian,
Percheron, Brabant,Shire, Clydesdale, Mule, Haflinger and Spotted
Drafts. You'll see our teams pulling new and antique wagons at
parades and many other community events.
